Fiberglass Balcony Price in Quebec
The price of a fiberglass balcony generally ranges from $40 to $90 per square foot, depending on the area, installation complexity, type of finish (solid, granite, non-slip) and the condition of the existing structure. For a standard residential balcony, the total cost typically falls between $2,000 and $6,000.
This decking costs more than painted wood, but is much more durable and requires no major long-term maintenance. Since fiberglass is completely waterproof and crack-resistant, it prevents frequent repairs, making it a worthwhile investment over many years.
The price also varies depending on the chosen finish. A solid finish is the most economical option. Granite and Greca finishes cost slightly more, but offer a more aesthetic result based on personal preferences.

Lifespan of a Fiberglass Balcony
A properly installed fiberglass balcony lasts between 25 and 30 years, and often longer. That is considerably longer than a painted wood balcony (5 to 10 years before refinishing) or an elastomeric membrane (10 to 15 years).
The reason is simple: fiberglass forms a waterproof surface in a single piece on 3/4-inch plywood. Water does not penetrate, does not seep into the structure and does not cause hidden damage. It is the decking that protects your balcony as much as what is underneath it.
The main factors that influence the longevity of a fiberglass balcony are the quality of the initial installation (particularly the drainage slope), the thickness of the fiberglass used and the proper application of caulking around the anchors of aluminum railings ou de glass railings. Without proper caulking at drill points, water can reach the plywood and compromise long-term waterproofing.
Fiberglass Balcony Maintenance
Fiberglass balcony maintenance is minimal. Cleaning with mild soap and warm water once or twice a year is enough to maintain the appearance and non-slip properties of the decking. For stubborn stains, a mixture of water and white vinegar works very well.
No stain to reapply, no sealant to apply, no boards to replace. Fiberglass is non-porous, meaning dirt does not adhere easily.
Avoid: harsh chemicals, metal brushes and overly powerful pressure washers, which could damage the protective finish layer.
Why Our Balconies Require So Little Maintenance
Many manufacturers apply a simple coat of resin as a finish. Resin is a structural adhesive, not a surface protection. Our balconies are coated with a superior quality gelcoat: a protective finish layer that resists UV rays, impacts and daily wear. The result is a non-porous surface whose color retains its brilliance year after year, without paint.
Fiberglass Balcony Colors and Finishes
Our fiberglass balconies are available in three types of finishes:
Greca Finish for Fiberglass Balcony
The Greca finish offers a distinctive pattern with a more refined look. It pairs well with contemporary-style properties.
Granite Finish for Fiberglass Balcony
The granite finish provides a textured, speckled appearance. It is the most popular choice for an elegant look that conceals daily wear marks well.
Solid Colors for Fiberglass Balcony
Solid colors offer a clean, modern look. All colors from the SICO 6000 range are available on request for balconies, fiberglass steps and risers. All our products are manufactured on 3/4-inch plywood with a non-slip finish.

FAQ: Fiberglass Balcony
Fiberglass or Composite for an Outdoor Balcony?
Composite (pressed wood fiber and recycled plastic) heats up in the sun, becomes slippery when wet and fades after a few seasons. Water seeps between the boards and reaches the structure underneath. Composite manufacturer warranties are often inapplicable in Quebec because the manufacturer is not based in Canada. Fiberglass is waterproof in a single piece and offers significantly superior durability.
Does Fiberglass Get Hot in the Sun?
Fiberglass can get hot in the sun, especially in darker colors. If your balcony faces due south, choose a lighter color to reduce heat absorption. That said, the surface stays significantly cooler than dark composite.
Can Fiberglass Be Installed on an Old Wood Structure?
Yes. The fiberglass balcony is installed on 3/4-inch plywood, which can be placed on an existing wood structure provided it is in good condition and the drainage slope is adequate. If the structure is deteriorated, it must be replaced or reinforced before installation. Our team assesses the balcony structure condition before every installation project.
Is a Permit Required to Redo a Fiberglass Balcony?
A municipal permit is required in most cases for the replacement or addition of a balcony. Requirements vary from one municipality to another. Check with your city before starting your project.
What Is the Best Decking for an Outdoor Balcony in Quebec?
Fiberglass is one of the best-performing options. Unlike wood, membranes or composite boards, it offers a completely waterproof surface that resists frost, moisture and cracking. For climates with frequent freeze-thaw cycles, it is one of the most reliable decking materials for the long term.
